Fabulous Liebster Love!

We won a Liebster Award! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaay! Thank you very much to MHK in STL for awarding us with the prestigious award, you’ve made two girls very happy and very grateful! 😀

So what is the Liebster Award(?), I hear you ask. Well, the Liebster Award is all about the discovery of new blogs, and giving the award to your favourite blogs so more and more can be found, and shared, and ideas can be shared and read by many more. It also helps bloggers hopes of expanding their exposure and gaining more followers.

“Liebster” is a German word (I should really know what it means as I took GCSE German for two years-I think it means something associated with ‘love’ as ‘lieb’ means ‘love’). The exact meaning of it is slightly varied, and it can mean anything associated with the words ‘sweetest’, ‘dearest’, ‘lovely’, ‘pleasant’, ‘valued’, ‘cute’, ‘endearing’ or ‘welcome’.

So how does it work? Well the blog that awards yours with the ‘Liebster Award’ designs a set of questions that you have to then answer, in our case, the questions have come from MHK in STL . Then, when you are choosing your few favourite blogs, you then design your own set of questions for them to answer, and on it continues.

Myself and Scarlett will both answer the set of questions separately and then design our own individual set of questions and choose our own favourite blogs. We hope you enjoy reading our answers! 🙂

Laura:

1. Is there a story behind the title of your blog? If so, share it!

Yes, there is actually. Ours was a joke that started it actually. Scarlett has always used the word “fabulous”. She uses it as an adjective to describe everything, and always uses it to sign off with her name, and in reference to herself. I can’t remember exactly what happened, but I think it was the day we were down at V-shape: “A Fabulous Adventure“, but the planning definitely came when we were at my dad’s house taking fabulous pictures of ourselves. We were laughing, as we usually do together, and obviously thinking we were both hilarious (we’re not, but we like to think we are) and I remember saying something like “we should just start our own blog or something” (because I know Scarlett has her own blog) as a joke. But then Scarlett got all excited and began to explain all the possibilities of this ‘joke’ and I began to get involved in the excitement too. We began to discuss this, and I remember saying “yes, we should call it ‘Fifty Shades of Funny'”. Scarlett loved it and it made us laugh again. Later that day at V-shape we began to brainstorm ideas for posts and what we would include in our blog.

That night, Scarlett messaged me (as she created the entire blog (thank you Scarlett!)) saying that ‘Fifty Shades of Funny’ had already been taken and that there was a ‘Shades of Funny’ available and ‘Fifty Shades of Fabulous’. I really wanted the ‘Fifty Shades’ part involved, and of course with Scarlett’s fabulous-ness, it really made complete sense to go for the second option. We both loved it, and ‘Fifty Shades of Fabulous’ was born.

We then got carried away, and jokingly said we should make a Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc etc for ‘Fifty Shades of Fabulous’. It was another joke, but later on I received a barrage of links to all our new pages. Sigh.

Scarlett: I take things seriously – especially blogging. So when Laura jokes, I go out of my way to make those things happen.. mostly to see how Laura will react, but partially because you never know where blogging may lead.

2. What is your favourite go-to hobby to cure boredom?

I could do anything. Competitive sport games with friends and family are always tons of fabulous fun. I used to play cricket with my Dad and brother and I absolutely loved it.

Oh and to watch ‘Jamie’s World‘ videos. I don’t think I’ve seen anything funnier. They are partly to congratulate in helping me retain my sanity during my exam and revision period. The girl is a genius. If you would like to check out her videos too, click here to go to her Facebook page.

3. If you could donate $10,000 to a charity of your choice, which charity would it be? Why?

My choice would be Marie Curie. I mostly always wear on of their yellow daffodils. It was always on my blazer when I went to school, and I think I remember getting really annoyed when I was told to take every accessory off my blazer, which included the daffodil, because it was a charity that I was showing my support for. The yellow daffodil now hands from my college lanyard. The story behind why I would donate this money to them because the nurses were an amazing support and help for my Nan when she was suffering with terminal cancer. That help and support meant the world to her and the world to my family, and without them, we wouldn’t have known what to do. I therefore want every person who are suffering with cancer to have the opportunity to be helped and supported by these people, because they made such a positive impact on my Nan’s and my family’s lives in the darkest days, and I want this for all cancer sufferers and their families too. Marie Curie’s work and their nurses help would not be able to continue without much needed donations, and that is why I would donate $10,000 to them.

4. What’s your favourite thing to do with your best friend?

Anything. Best friend’s make everything great, so it’s hard to pick a favourite.

5. It’s a rainy day. What do you do?

Sleep. No I’m joking. What a waste of a day if you just slept through it.

Well I tell you one thing I definitely wouldn’t do. Go outside. Actually, I tell a lie, I would, if it meant I had a house right next door that I could come back into, peel off my damp clothes, dry myself and get into some warm and snuggly pyjamas, otherwise, no, I would not go outside.

I find my house full of possibilities of activity on a rainy day. It’s better when I have the house to myself because then there’s more to choose from. I could read, bake, watch TV, learn to play the guitar, sing, dance, clean, tidy, iron, wash pots, finish housework, finish any other work I have to do, go on the Xbox (with my brother’s permission of course), draw, craft, Playstation, Wii, blog, anything really. I probably wouldn’t do most of those actually. I would try and take full advantage of being stuck indoors for the day and attempt to finish jobs I have set myself to do because it annoys me when I have stuff to do and I am not productive. However, I would probably just end up and want to lounge around with a blanket and plenty of pillows watching films all day. That would be perfect. I love films. Preferably watching them on my own, but I don’t mind company.

6. What’s your all-time favourite movie?

What a fitting question after my last response! Ooh, I have no idea! Hm, I’m addicted to film adaptations of the novels of Jane Austen. My favourite is probably the 2005 adaptation of ‘Pride and Prejudice’ starring Keira Knightley and Matthew McFadden. I will simply refuse to watch any other adaptation of that story. It pains me to have to watch another as I believe there is nothing that can top that version. It’s completely fabulous.

7. Ice cream or frozen yoghurt?

I don’t think I’ve ever had frozen yoghurt, I didn’t really know there was a difference between the two. Now I have acknowledged there is, I guess I would have to say ice-cream. Vanilla if I’m having it with a brownie or chocolate cake, and triple chocolate with chocolate sauce and all the chocolate swirls if it’s just on it’s own.

Scarlett: YOU’VE NEVER EATEN FROZEN YOGHURT?! Holy mother of god.

8. If you could hang out with a celebrity of your choice, who would it be?

Ooh, there’s so many to choose from. I would love to hang out with most of them I reckon. Someone who could keep my laughing I reckon. I think Keith Lemon (Leigh Francis), David Tennant and Danny O’Donoghue I reckon would be great fun to hang out with for the day, but I don’t know if I would choose them.

What I would really love to do is hang out on the sets of TV shows and films, to watch it all happen, and see how the people are off the cameras. I think that would be really great.

9. What is next on your reading list?

I’m currently reading ‘Picture Perfect’ by Jodi Picoult. She’s my favourite author right now. Her books grip me. So far I’ve read: ‘My Sister’s Keeper’, ‘Salem Falls’ and was part way through ‘Perfect Match’ at school, but I left before I got to finish it :-(. The topics of her book are often quite dark and disturbing, so I would not recommend for younger readers. The topics are also sometimes difficult to grasp as they contain a lot of specialised knowledge that I can not understand, and I don’t think would be able to understand without a degree in that profession. I find that this makes them all the more interesting to read, and to find out what spin she puts on them is intriguing.

The next item-s of my reading list would be to definitely read all of her books.

10. What are your hopes and dreams for your already adorable blog?

Aw, thank you for the compliment!

I never really thought about hopes and dreams if I’m honest with you. The main thought was to just start up a blog with my best friend and write about our adventures together, and things that make us laugh in the hope that they would brighten up someone’s day.

The hope to start off with was to get into the world of blogging and explore what it’s like.

The dream for the future would probably be to continue this, to keep entertaining people, and to watch in grow across our lives. My other dream for it will be for it to keep Scarlett and I together when we are separated, and to keep us and our adventures alive, connected and fabulous; wherever we may be in the world.

Scarlett: As you may notice, i’m no good at writing big lengthy answers like Laura – so here are my answers in basic form!

1. Is there a story behind the title of your blog? If so, share it!

The story behind is Laura has clearly already explained – so there we go!

2. What is your favourite go-to hobby to cure boredom?

I have many things I can do when I get bored: Art, Pokémon, Minecraft, Reading, walking.. My favourite at the moment though is most definitely blogging.

3. If you could donate $10,000 to a charity of your choice, which charity would it be? Why?

Myeloma UK – My Auntie Sue died of this awful disease just before Christmas so i’d do anything to help anyone going through the same thing. It’s one of the lesser known of the cancers so it doesn’t get as much funding so the $10,000 would go a long way.

4. What’s your favourite thing to do with your best friend?

My favourite thing to do with my best friends is just be with them. With my friends we could do anything and find enjoyment out of it. However, with Laura: just staying in, watching films (such as hairspray) singing and drinking cocktails.

5. It’s a rainy day. What do you do?

Stay in bed watching movies and blogging – inviting friends round sometimes to stop me from going insane.

6. What’s your all-time favourite movie?

It’s a tie between The Shawshank Redemption and The Hunger Games – both clearly are tear jerkers: Shawshank, the end where Red and Andy hug on the beach and Hunger games, where Rue dies. I am currently watching the Hunger Games and the way that the sound and picture is used to show different things is really clever. The Shawshank Redemption is just a classic, and I don’t know of one person who doesn’t like it.

7. Ice cream or frozen yoghurt?

Frozen Yoghurt any day – I currently have lots of Frubes in my freezer.

8. If you could hang out with a celebrity of your choice, who would it be?

ZAK BAGANS! I bet you all knew that was coming. Zak Bagans is my idea of perfection, but if Aaron Goodwin was there as well that’d be the perfect day in my eyes: Zak’s beauty, greatness and all round fabulousness and Aaron’s brilliance and witty humour would cause for an extremely brilliant time, not to mention we’d go on a ghost hunt – something I’ve always wanted to do.

9. What is next on your reading list?

I’m currently looking for the Hunger Games saga – i’m sure Laura said her brother has it.. I May have to steal it off him when I get home.

10. What are your hopes and dreams for your already adorable blog?

Cute, “Adorable” – Thanks ❤

I agree with Laura – I hope for it to keep us in touch where ever we are in the world – another big dream that could come out of it is for our blog to get recognised by something big and we and Laura could become famous for it.. A long shot but never say never right?

So without further ado…here are our Liebster Love nominations:

It’s me, Charlotte – anyone that loves reading is super cool. Books are the way forward, forget about technology. Nothing can beat a good book. We especially loved her ‘Book Obsession post’. This is pure fabulousness:

“People do not understand why I am obsessed with books.
I don’t understand why they aren’t.
This.
Right here.
When I talk to some people I cannot understand why they don’t love books.
But then I talk to people who are equally excited by books and the world is balanced once again.”

Thoughts from Hazel  – Her words are simply beautiful.

Advent’s & Other Fine (ell) Adventures – We love the way her posts end with what she is thankful and grateful for in her life. It’s such a lovely and inspiring passage to read. There should be more people with the positive mind that she possesses.

…and last but not least; polka dots and leopard spots – Her fashion sense and quirky highlights makes her our firm favourite fashion blogger!

So the questions for our nominees are as follows:

  1. Can you remember why, when and where you first decided to write a blog, if so why, when and where?
  2. What is your all time favourite thing to wear? Favourite book? What’s your most played song?
  3. What is your favourite thing to do when you’re home alone?
  4. Would you prefer to be without music for the rest of your life or without television?
  5. What is your idea of a perfect date?
  6. Do you say Oreo or Orrrreo?
  7. Which is your favourite Haribo sweet?
  8. If you could bottle something in order to keep it forever, what would it be?
  9. What’s something you’ve disliked your whole life?
  10. If you were Prime Minister/President, what would your first official act be?

We can wait to read your answers! 🙂

So to our nominees/award-ees, and all the other bloggers out there:

A Fabulous Return!

Wow! Hello! It’s been so long since our last post…I think it was Halloween.

I would just like to take a moment to apologise for our inability to keep our promise of daily/weekly posts…that’s so out of the window. However, after contemplating my life over the course of this weekend, I am determined to be a better person. I am going to change, to be better, to strive further. I shall study, I shall work hard and I shall blog. And I shall keep it up. Aha, deep and emotional much.

So a quick update. What’s been going on?

I started college…and that’s pretty much it. Social life has gone out the window…not that I even had one to start with.

No I joke, I think I’ve been more sociable over this last year than I have in my whole life. That’s a joke too. I think the fact that I have to travel to Nottingham every day meaning that I leave my home town every day somehow convinces my mind that I have a social life.

But no, I’ve started college at ncn…the High Pavement campus. I am doing my A-Levels. I’m doing four, was previously doing five. My insanity levels were at extraordinary heights during that time. I am doing Biology, Chemistry, Maths (don’t ask me why, I don’t know) and History. In true Ilkeston words, they’re SOLID.

When people said that the jump from GCSE to A-Level was a huge one, I massively underestimated that. It’s EXTREMELY LARGE for all your Year 11s. Forget friends, forget social networking sites, forget life.

That’s the problem with what went wrong for me. I was so worried about making friends when I started at college as I only knew one person there, that I spent my first term getting to know people and forming friendships. I went out after college to spend time getting to know others, and I spent all of my breaks chatting too. So I am now so behind. And failing. I think I would have been better off friendless. However, saying that, I wouldn’t have changed meeting the people and making the friends I have for the world.

In terms of anything else, I shall just say I have been a social butterfly at some times, and at others, a bit of a lonely hamster. I have used a hamster metaphor here as they literally do nothing. They sleep and run around in their little wheels. I think I’m justified.

But safe to say, apart from the occasional bad time, this college year has been a good one. I am happy and enjoying life. So hipster. YOLO.

So until next time, or until Scarlett notices I’m blogging again and does an update on herself,

Stay Safe, Stay Warm, Stay Hydrated and STAY FABULOUS! Wow, I’ve missed saying that 😀

Fabulous Famous Five

Well that’s clearly the best title ever – alliteration, informative and it has the word fabulous, what more could you want? For today’s post, I thought about sharing my top 5 famous people and explaining why i love them so much. If you know me as a person, you’ll already know about a few of these but if you don’t: welcome to Scarlett’s fantasy mind! – P.S If you haven’t gathered by now, it’s Scarlett writing this.

ishot-2321. Zak Bagans: Like i said, if you know me you’ll already know about this. I have a huge obsession with Ghost Adventures so this person and the next person will come as no surprise to you. Zak Bagans is a macho ghost hunter who saves dogs – what more could you wish for? For those who don’t know who Zak Bagans is: Zachary Alexander (Zak) Bagans (born on April 5, 1977) is the lead investigator and co-founder of the Ghost Adventures Crew organization, one of the largest worldwide network of professional paranormal investigators. Zak was born in Washington, D.C. and currently lives in Las Vegas, NV. I can easily admit my love for Zak Bagans – even when i don’t love easily. After years of watching Ghost Adventures daily, Zak and the crew have increasingly become part of my life – how ever sad that may sound. I’m currently watching the Ghost Adventures marathon on Really (UK TV) too, so i’m even getting the watch Zak’s face in night vision as we speak.

I don’t just have a thing for Zak because of his muscular physique and loving nature – Zak is my inspiration when it comes to my future because i’ve always wanted to become a Ghost Hunter. Zak Bagans has added to that dream by giving me the knowledge of equipment and terminology that i would need to pursue this – he’s shown me the dangers and benefits of the job.

size_550x415_ZakBobbyMackeypuppyfeedingHaving grown up for the past few years with Zak as my guide i suppose i’ve just got used to him being around, even though he’s not physically around. Some of you may have your doubts about the evidence on Ghost  Adventures and from my person blog post you can see my opinions on that – i too believe some of their evidence may be fake, but i do truly believe in a majority of their evidence.

If Zak Bagans wasn’t so kind hearted and loving, i personally would think he is rather stuck up – i did when i first started watching Ghost Adventures because his aggressive nature seemed to dominate his personality. It wasn’t until i got more fond of the show when i started to discover his loving nature. Zak is successful – he has his own CD, Book, Website, Clothing Line and of course, his own show! Overall, Zak Bagans is my number one favourite famous person because of his witty, loving and manly personality. I also have a strange obsession with his hands…

Elizabeth-Ruth-Pettyjohn-Test-7932-950x14252. Aaron Goodwin: So Aaron Goodwin is also from Ghost Adventures, so i apologise if you don’t watch Ghost Adventures and find these two people as complete mysteries to you. So Aaron, to me, seems like the most down to earth of the Ghost Adventures Crew, and he’s without a doubt the funniest. To be honest, Aaron is a very close first with Zak but Zak just clenches that win for me… Aaron’s fabulous beard, facial expressions and witty humour have me in stitches constantly throughout the show which put a lighter mood to it instead of a scary, ghostly tone.

Aaron also has his own website and his own clothing brand: Bigsteppin’, which is rather snazzy i might add – i’ve been begging my parents for a Bigsteppin’ tank top for over a year now but of course they wont order it because it’s from America! Not only does he have a website –

bigstep

Aaron is also the maker of ‘Aaron’s Vlog’ which shows all us Ghost Adventures fans what the crew get up to during the filming of GA – Thank you Aaron!

As well as Aaron’s brilliance with Ghost Adventures, he also gives to charity- at Christmas he gave unfortunate children hundreds of toys. So over all, Aaron is amazing because he’s 1, part of the Ghost Adventures Crew 2, Is fabulously funny 3, Gives to charity 4, Shows us what the GAC gets up to during filming.

Johnny Depp, Self Assignment, April 1, 19953. Johnny Depp: So if you don’t know who Johnny Depp is you’ve been living in a cave for the whole of your life. John Christopher “Johnny” Depp II is an American actor, film producer, and musician. He has won the Golden Globe Award and Screen Actors Guild award for Best Actor. I think that really all i need to do to explain my love for Johnny Depp is show you a picture – what more can i say? The cheek bones and the eyes and his HANDS! Once again, i have a thing for hands… Depp has more than 12 tattoos mapped out over his body. They include his son’s name scripted on his right forearm and daughter Lily-Rose’s above his heart, and a Native American profile on his right bicep paying homage to his Cherokee heritage. I love tattoo’s on any man, so Johnny Depp having tattoo’s is a just a bonus. His style is fabulous and retro – just another little thing that i like about him. Also, from what i’ve heard and seen, he’s usually wearing a cute plastic necklace his daughter made him.Johnny-Depp

To me, Johnny seems really down to earth and he most certainly doesn’t take being a huge star for granted “He’s even signed autographs for crowds at the airport while carrying luggage,” says editor Steve Cyrkin. To some people that doesn’t mean anything, but for a common girl like me, the people i look up to most being humble is something i like. Depp’s role in certain films also stand out to me: Jack Sparrow, Edward Scissor hands, Sweeney Todd, Cry Baby and Gilbert Grape are some of my favourites.

helena-bonham-carter-1366609237_b4. Helena Bonham Carter: I don’t actually know why i like Helana so much – i think it’s her quirky style and her constant duoing with Johnny Depp. I especially like her in Sweeney Todd – one of my favourite films. Helena Bonham Carter, CBE is an English actress. She made her acting debut in a television adaptation of K. M. Peyton’s A Pattern of Roses before winning her first film role as the titular character in Lady Jane. It doesn’t surprise me that Helena is in nearly every Tim Burton film going – them being a couple and all. The reason she is a great role model for me is that she is completely down to earth – like all of the people i’ve mentioned here. She shows girls like me that you don’t have to be blonde and stick thin to be pretty because dresses completely unique.helena-bonham-carter2

She doesn’t care what others think about her style and likes the fact that she doesn’t follow the celebrity trends – so she’s like an inspiration to me. She dresses with good taste and she says that she is disgusted by plastic surgury and will never get it. More people should be more individual and realize that there is more than one type of beauty. Over all, Helena is a great actress that deserves to be praised for going against the stereotypes people have made about what being a god actress is, also because she’s really down to earth and of course is usually with Johnny Depp!

554948118526422724865. Jennifer Lawrence: So i basically like Jennifer Lawrence because she was in the Hunger Games, my favourite film. I don’t have much to say about Jennifer, other than she was great in the Hunger Games so i have a bit of a thing for her. From what i’ve heard she’s also major funny and witty.

She tripped over her Dior dress at the SAG Awards, boldly faced the wardrobe malfunction headlines, sassed late-night talk-show hosts and freaked out, fan-girl style, when she met Jack Nicholson. Something which would most likely happen me! All that and she also took home a lead actress Oscar for “Silver Linings Playbook” to boot.

To me she’s basically perfect, just because she isn’t perfect. And from this video you can clearly see that she’s amazingly funny!

So until the next time,

Stay Safe, Stay Warm, Stay Hydrated and Stay Fabulous!

Five Ways to Survive a Cold

So, while one of us is off boating around the country (not literally), the other one has been taken gravely ill with a cold. It seems as if that one of us cannot physically cope, function and stay healthy when the other is not around. Aw, sweet. However, I have chosen the best time to be ill as it means that when I don’t go out because I’m hovelled under a blanket on my settee feeling sorry for myself, I don’t miss any time seeing Scarlett. Awh, how cute.

So, anyway, the point of this post! My five ways to survive a cold. No everyone will always tell you to:

1. Drink plenty of fluids

2. Get plenty of sleep

3. Make sure you maintain a healthy diet

4. Get some fresh air every now and again.

5. Take the appropriate medicine when required and make sure that you always get everything out of your system by blowing your nose etc.

This is a good response as to how to beat a cold, but it’s also rather typical and broad, and little things that can actually help you big time, or what I believe, help you beat a cold even faster are not really thought of to include in this little mainstream list.

So here are mine:

1. HAVE A LEMSIP

This is my number one, most important, best way to get better quickly. They literally are a miracle where colds and fevers and any other associated illnesses are concerned. They’re fab. Anyone who is ever ill in my friendship group or family, and I have people to vouch for me, I tell them to drink a lemsip. I swear by them.

So what are they? They’re a mixture of ingredients, mainly paracetamol, that are in powder form and are concealed within a packet. You empty the contents into your favourite mug (I have a particular mug I use for lemsips) and then you fill the rest of the mug with boiling water. Stir, wait to appropriate temperature to drink, and the drink it. They unblock you and put you at ease for the next few hours before you can then have another one. Make sure you check the exact time on the packets.

My favourite are the ‘Beechems Cold&Flu Hot Blackcurrant’. You can either get 5 sachet packets or 10 sachet packets. However there’s other flavours such as a ‘Breathe Easy: Lemon’ or ‘All In One: Wild Berry and Hot Orange’. I have these two in my cupboards.

2. Have a really hot bath

If there is a time you are feeling particularly rough, then the answer is in the evening, have a really hot bath, just at the point where it may start to burn. There is one problem with this. The heat may make you feel light-headed, panicky, irritated, uneasy and short of breath. This is all part of it. However much added roughness it makes you feel, it’s worth it, as the result the next morning makes up for it. Just try and remain calm, relax, make sure a window is open, and take regular breaks, where you get out of the bath, and sit it a cool place for a couple of minutes before getting back in. Having a hot bath will help you sweat out all the ‘bad stuff’ and help clear your systems in you nose and head. When you wake up in the morning, you’ll feel a lot clearer and a lot better.

3. Have extra pillows at night

Now this totally contradicts what I have just said about the ‘have plenty of rest’. I absolutely hate sleeping when I have a cold. Lying down, and having my head not upright makes me, personally, feel even worse and I panic when I find I can’t breathe as easy. I become even more uneasy about sleeping because I find it difficult to go to sleep being so uncomfortably ill, and constantly wake up in the night struggling to breath, feeling clogged up, headaches, and the need to get up and blow my nose. (TIP: keep a bag and a box of tissues/loo roll next to your bed so you don’t have to keep getting up in the night). I then always feel horrible the next morning when I wake up. The mornings are often when I feel my roughest. To get past this, I recommend having at least three pillows, or using something that can prop you up and help you get to sleep. V-pillows are best (exactly how they find). You may wake up uncomfortable, but doing this is a god send with helping to fall asleep, as it keeps you head slightly upright, which keeps me from panicking as you feel as if you are upright.

4. Do not put anything on your face

People would often take this as do not put makeup on your face when you are ill and say that this is a typical way of dealing with a cold too. However, what I mean is anything. Do not put anything on your face. This includes make up, but it also means other things such as face cream, face masks, oil, whatever creams or lotions you may rub on your face. I usually use a moisturiser on my face, but tend to avoid using it when I’m ill as it makes me feel clogged up and this makes me feel irritated and panicky. Make up is also a no go, because that can make you feel stressed, as when you have a cold, your nose will run, you will constantly have to blow it, your eyes will water, your mouth will be dry, and you’ll feel as if you cannot do anything because you can’t touch your face in fear of messing up your makeup. It’s uncomfortable so I just wouldn’t bother. Putting Vaseline on the top and around the bottom of your nose to clear it is also something that is said you should do to unblock your nose, but this is also something I hate. You’re practically blocking it up even more!

5. Keep busy

I always find I can distract myself when I’m ill by keeping busy and not avoiding the jobs I need to do by using the excuse that I’m ill. It means that you can get some exercise and that you body gets some air and some movement and is not kept cooped up, which slims the chance of a fast recovery. Breathing different air in different rooms is good.

Sometimes work can make you feel even worse, but then once the work is done, you can have a good rest which means you can calm the roughness. It all ends up well anyway, you work, and then rest of recover. And jobs can get done too!

I want to also put here that looking forlorn and getting sympathy and things done for you is good to. But you will not always have someone there to look forlorn too, and get sympathy from and to do things for you. When you live on your own, or are on your own, you’ll have to do it yourself. So man up, and don’t let an illness stop you from being as fabulously alive as you were before.

So, until the need to write about surviving another minor illness:

Stay Safe, Stay Warm, Stay Hydrated and Stay Fabulous! (these will all help you survive a cold too!) 😀

Fifty Shades Of Us!

…well Fifty Facts About Us really.

We thought, well Laura did, Scarlett doesn’t know about this yet, that although we, well Scarlett has already done an ‘About Us’ page and a welcome post that has already given you an insight into the world of each of us, I thought some random, quirky facts wouldn’t go a miss either. So, the amount. Well it seems that as the blog is called ‘Fifty Shades of Fabulous’, it would only be right to then do fifty, quick, listed facts about each of us.

Laura: So here goes. I’ll try not to be typical in my facts, but I can’t promise anything. I like to be different but that’s not always the case. I don’t believe I am that interesting, so I think 50 random facts is going to be difficult, and I cannot guarantee that you will not fall asleep. I also don’t like sharing a lot about myself so this therefore makes this a near impossible task but here goes:

1. My name used to be Laura Hindle, it is now Laura Toher-Hindle. Speaking of names, I would like to call my first born: Coira Jane. The first name will be pronounced ‘Cora’, however I think names with ‘i’s’, ‘o’s’ and ‘a’s’ in look feminine and pretty. My brother thinks this is extremely stupid.  I think ‘u’s’ are ugly and masculine letters (I’m not saying males are ugly).

2. I like to be a mystery. Oooooooh. I hate the thought that I can be easily read. I also like to be different. I hate the thought that I’m the same as someone, and that my actions and what I say are typical of a 16 year old girl.

3. I don’t trust easily. May seem typical and common, but I seriously trust literally no one.

4. I have a phobia of my phone keyboard. It scares me and drives me to the point of extreme anger and frustration.

5.  I never reply…to anyone.

6. My nickname is ‘Ginge’.

7. I am not ginger.

8. I love films. I could literally live the rest of my life and do nothing but watch films. I tend to predict what’ll happen in everything I watch (which makes me feel great when it turns out to happen), and I analyse every detail. Thank you English for ruining my enjoyment of motion picture.

9. I am so lazy. I love to sleep. However doing nothing is really uncomfortable for me.

10. I am a perfectionist.

11. I never meet deadlines and I am always late. I’m so dis-organised and I do not prioritize at all.  I’m always behind. This is going to become my next rapid improvement.

12. I spend too much money on clothes. But this has slowed down a considerable amount in the recent months.

13. I am so dippy. I have zero common sense.

14. I am very self-conscious and insecure. So I struggle to describe myself as ‘Fabulous’ or any other associated word for this blog. I would rather be liked than disliked.

15. I love Greece. Mainly the island of Zakynthos. I love Greek food. It’s so fresh.

16. I’m often fond of change. But in some instances, I hate it.

17. I love random foods. I could sit and eat spoonfuls of mango chutney all day. However, I hate seafood and I hate mustard. Feed my any of those, knowing my dislike, I will instantly dislike you.

18. I mostly always, now, melt any chocolate I have and eat it that way. I also have an inability to eat sandwiches as sandwiches. I always dismantle them and eat all the pieces separately. My diet is so rubbish…so unhealthy.

19. I constantly drink either Orange juice, Apple juice, Cranberry or Cranberry and Raspberry juice. They’re great.

20. I am very independent. I love my own company. But I hate to be on my own in public.

21. I can never spell the words “associated”, “opportunity”, “separated” and “surprise”. I never know if it’s two ‘s’s’ or a ‘c’ in ‘associated’, I always use a ‘u’ instead of an ‘o’ in ‘opportunity’, I always put an ‘e’ in the place of the second ‘a’ because when you say the word it sounds like an ‘e’ should be there and I always forget the first ‘r’ in ‘surprise. The fact that I have managed to spell them all correctly here is a miracle. Thank goodness for red squiggly lines and spell-check.

22. People’s feelings are important to me, so I often feel very guilty and I often worry as to whether my actions will, if and how they may affect someone.

23. I am so sarcastic. This is not always picked up.

24. I have an awful laugh. If people don’t laugh at my jokes, I will laugh at them so that then people laugh at my laugh. I love to entertain, give surprises, make people laugh. I like it when people tell me that I make them happy. I love to have unique bonds with people.

25. I always aim for the highest and the best. I am not happy with anything less. People who don’t understand this irritate me.

26. I used to be a national level swimmer. I am currently a Level One Qualified Teacher of Aquatic Skill. You can probably tell I love sport. I love sport games and competitions. I love to win.

27. Studying will always be the most important aspect of my life right now.

28. I HATE walking. It’s so boring. The fact that I have to speed-walk everywhere because I’m always late is probably a contributing factor into why I don’t like it.

29. I am always ill somehow. It’s horrible.

30. I love bright colours and patterns. I don’t have a favourite colour or style.

31. I love having braces, just not when they hurt.

32.  I have enlarged adenoids. I also have tiny ears and am almost 110% certain I’m shrinking.

33. My eyes are so weak. I prefer sunglasses where you cannot see my eyes through the lenses.

34. I want to have many different careers in the future. I don’t want to do one thing with my life, I want to do many. I don’t want to be bored at any point in my life. Not being productive really irritates me.

35. I want to be remembered when I die. I would love to make an impact on the world. Like, finding a cure for cancer. I would love to do that.

36. I would love to be able to sing. I sing all the time. My shower head is great. And I would love to be able to street dance. I would also love to play the acoustic guitar and the piano, which I hope to learn one day.

37. I hate to cry in front of people. I also hate lying. I especially hate it when I know the truth and watch when someone else lies about it. I could never lie to my Mum.

38. I think the numbers 4, 8, 9, and 24, 48, 49 and 94 are very pretty numbers.

39. I love to read. I get lost in books. I can’t put them down sometimes, and read whenever I can in this state. Jodie Picoult is my favourite author right now.

40. I hate to lose anything. I hoard everything and find it very difficult to clear out.

41. I was so happy when I learned that one day I could magically click my fingers. I wish I could make sound effects with my mouth, like whistling, or making the ‘POP’ sound by pulling a finger along the cheek.

42. I love to take pictures. I believe nothing can be forgotten if I have a picture of it.

43. I get really irritated when people I love choose bad choices in life. Such as smoking. Or drugs.

44. I used to have a great memory. Now I’m forgetting a lot of things and this concerns me.
Subsection a. I always remember something when I’ve written it down even if I never look at it again. I have half a photographic memory according to my science teacher, so this may be the reason. Saying I only have half may look like I’m wishful thinking, attention seeking and only pretending, but I literally can remember sections of pages, or the appearance of a page and what’s written on it. Colour helps to enhance this.

45. I lose my temper very easily. I regret any actions immediately after I have committed them when I’m in a bad temper.

46. I will always apologise to people who I have upset, even when I may be in the right. I hate tension when I love the person who may have been upset by something I have done. I find it the most difficult to apologise to my brother. I don’t know why.

47. I have a brother. Me and my brother are very similar. Stick us in a group of 100 people, make us all laugh, and you will instantly know that we are related.

48. I have a filthy mind, sometimes. But, surprisingly after saying that, I’m quite innocent, and I don’t know what a lot of things means in relation.

49. I am terrified of paranormal beings. They petrify me. I am also terrified of the dark and most insects. I hide under my quilt at night because I believe nothing can touch me when I’m under it. I am also terrified of awkwardness. I’m also terrified of any form of commitment.

50. I am so very proud to be British. I have so many British flag possessions it’s unreal.

(additional fact for you: I hate the way I’ve had to set this out in order for it to be readable.)

It’s lovely to meet you all. 😀

Scarlett:

Now it’s my part of the post and with not knowing who i actually am at the moment this will be quite hard for me. In addition to that, i’m not really that interesting to tell you the truth but i sure will have a go! I’ll try and make it as interesting as possible and avoid the typical ‘My Name is Scarlett, i am 16 from England’. I’ll go all out there with random facts about myself. I hope you enjoy!

  1. My absolute number one dream is to live in America – Idaho or Ohio.
  2. Not many people know that much about me – Laura is the person who knows me the most.
  3. I absolutely hate Facebook – but it’s one of the only ways i can talk to some of my friends so it’s needed.
  4. My favorite numbers are as follows: 8, 12, 24, 37 and 69 – My Least favorite number is 7.
  5. I absolutely love my cat – I have two cats, Buttons and Riley but Buttons is by far my favorite (Not that i should have a favorite)
  6. I love to walk – everywhere. I use public transport as little as possible and i will NEVER get in a taxi on my own, even if it means me having to walk for miles.
  7. I hate it when people copy my every move – which is an extremely bad trait of mine. It’s acceptable when it’s just one thing because then they don’t look like me, but when it’s literally every single thing i do – it gets on my nerves.
  8. My dream job would either be a Ghost Hunter or a Vintage cafe owner – Ghost Hunter so i could meet Zak Bagans and owning my own Vintage cafe has always been a dream of mine since i was a little girl.
  9. I love to walk down the street listening to ‘Superstition’ by Stevie Wonder – it makes me feel all sassy and because it’s the perfect speed i can walk in time to the music.
  10. I love photography – i’m not much good at it but i have a good eye apparently.
  11. I have moments in my life where i keep my room spotless for months – but then other times (Like now) I just get to my room at night, shove anything i have on the bed on the floor and go to sleep.
  12. I hate people who lie about everything just to try and impress people – i know way to many people like this and it’s funny because they think i can’t see past their lies.
  13. My nickname is ‘Red’ because clearly the name Scarlett means Red.
  14. (I’m stealing these off my other blog now because i can’t think of anything!) I have a phobia of submarines and sailors – or anything nautical for that matter. The thought of being trapped in the middle of no where, and the only way to safety would be swimming for miles terrifies me.
  15. I don’t get annoyed that easily but there are a few things which really annoy me and you’ll know if you do.
  16. I have total motivation changes all the time. Sometimes i’m motivated and want to be all productive and then other times i just want to lie in bed and do nothing at all.
  17. I dislike being around people for a long time unless they mean a lot to me, i can be quite temperamental. Similarly, i can’t handle commitment – which is going to suck in the future.
  18. I absolutely HATE change – i’d just love to stay in school for the rest of my life instead of changing things every couple of years. Maybe that’s because the future scares me.
  19. I don’t want to get married, the idea of marriage seems quite medieval to me. Plus like i just said i can’t handle commitment.
  20. I don’t want children either – because as we all know i really don’t like children. That’s because i get irritated easily by them. Ew.
  21. I’m perfectly happy being alone, until i get upset then i just want someone to cuddle me. – That’s why i have a cat.
  22. The saying ‘Never say Never’ baffles me.. i mean you just said never twice.. don’t be so contradictory…
  23. There are only about 3 people that i actually hate in the world – A teacher, an asshole and a bitch.
  24. I love it when people write status’ slagging me off and sprint screen my status’ and slag me off through them – it just goes to show that they’re the ones who can’t seem to let go and are clearly that bothered about me that they take time out of their day to try and annoy me.
  25. I love to dye my hair different colours (Clearly) but when i’m about to move on to a new colour i get too attached to my current hair colour and then don’t do it.
  26. Just past half way and i’m already disliking Laura for making me do this.
  27. I love to sit on my windowsill and listen to people argue on my street – its my free entertainment.
  28. The last time i did one of these was before i left school – not that much has changed to tell you the truth. Other than the fact that i’ve never been so bored in my life.
  29. I’d do anything to meet Zak Bagans – some one take me to him please? He’s my idol.
  30. To go to sleep the conditions have to be perfect – it has to be freezing cold, quiet and comfy enough for me to just snuggle up to my pillow and fall straight to sleep. (I also have to have no socks on)
  31. I never put more that two kisses on the end of messages, if you get more than you’re special or i want something.
  32. I hate people who misinterpret things and make me out to be the bad guy – as you can see on my person blog.
  33. My Bearded Dragon drives me mad, he is constantly trying to get out of his tank so i let him out and the tries to launch himself down the stairs.
  34. Similarly, my parrot is driving me absolutely insane.
  35. I have an obsession with anything sparkly – i’m like a magpie.
  36. My favourite colour is Orange but my favourite colour to wear is red.
  37. Storage Hunters has to be the most entertaining show ever.
  38. I have extremely strong opinions.. and that sometimes gets me into trouble. Something else that gets me into trouble is being over friendly.
  39. I don’t trust anyone – plain and simple.
  40. I doubt myself a hell of a lot – but then i just go for it anyway and try my very best.
  41. I should have been doing art since i left, and i’ve done absolutely none. Also, i should be doing piano practice and i haven’t done any of that either. Whoopsie.
  42. My family has a games room that we hardly ever use. Once at new years, once at halloween and any other parties we throw. However, i’m having friends round today and we’re having a movie night in my games room. Wins to be me.
  43. I can come across quite serious through texts, posts and messages but i’m actually a really bubbly person – not that it shows.
  44. I haven’t had my hair cut for about 3 years after my hair dresses cut my hair shoulder length after i said none off the length – my hair was down below my boobs. I think it might be a mild phobia of mine, whenever anyone even touches my hair i rage. However, my mum has had access to my hair recently to dye it.
  45. There’s always one person in my life who is on my case – as soon as one stops someone else comes to do it. Strangely enough, it’s usually the people who i treasure the most who turn against me.
  46. When people are paranoid or constantly moan at me for talking – i talk less just to make a point. Just another one of my bad traits being thrown out there.
  47. I’m so bad at keeping up with hollyoaks and when i watch the omnibus on sundays i get distracted so i never know whats cracking off. I don’t think i’ve watched it in over a month – i’m a bad person.
  48. I never take peoples advice which is one of my many down falls – however i get annoyed if people don’t take my advice.
  49. When i’m in my dad’s work van i feel superior to everyone because i’m higher. I’m like – ‘I’m looking down on you peasants’ but then i realise i’m the peasant because i’m rolling around in a work van.
  50. I’m so NOT proud to be British just to contrast Laura’s last post. I’m American at heart and i always have been. I’m just not meant to be English – that’s all it is.

I DID IT! I hope this little insight to how much of a boring person wasn’t too terrible for you to read. However, as proud as i am and no matter how much i’d just love to sit and admire my commitment to this i have to shoot off to get ready for my little get together tonight so farewell!

FIVE FACTS ABOUT THE BOTH OF US:

2. We both have similar tastes in style. Pattern and vibrant colours are the way forward.

3. We tend to feel sad at the same time.
